Portugal


Situated in the extreme southwest of Europe, Continental Portugal is bordered only with another country, Spain. To the north, the landscape is mountainous in the interior areas with uplands, interspersed with areas that enable the development of agriculture. In the south, up to Algarve, the terrain is mainly characterized by plains.

In addition to Continental Portugal, part of the national territory the Açores and Madeira.

Portugal has the shape of a rectangle, with 561 km long and 218 km wide.

It has a Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. Autumn and winter are typically windy, rainy and cool, being colder in the northern and central districts of the country.
Typically, the months of spring and summer are sunny and temperatures are high during the dry months of July and August.

The snow occurs regularly in the north during winter and reduces its occurrence in the south, until it became non-existent in most of Algarve.

Portugal became an independent country in 1143. It was a monarchy for 767 years, which ended in 1910, with the Founding of the Republic.
Portugal's population is approximately 11 million inhabitants and its official language is Portuguese.
