Portugal Rotaract Trip 2010

"Rotaract Portugal Trip 2010" began on 31st July, with 20 international participants from 14 nationalities. This cultural exchange, organized by the Rotaract clubs of Castelo Branco, Lisboa-Olivais and Sintra, appeared with the challenge that this organization launched the clubs towards internationalization.

Rotaract Club of Castelo Branco received this initiative, from 31st July to 4th August, in Ribeira da Isna de S. Carlos, in Proença a Nova, in the form of a camp.

In this camp the highlight was the international dinner, where each participant has to know their food and where everyone could taste diverse dishes that were prepared by the participants.

After this, they followed to Lisbon where they were received by the Rotaract club of Lisboa-Olivais, being guided by the city, Parque das Nações and Belém, where they got to know the history of our capital. The trip ended in Sintra, with a visit to the village and Seteais, and a trip to the beach.

This trip has made us more international, more open to understanding other cultures and to consider that friendship and generosity are values common to all peoples and cultures.

Portugal

Situated in the extreme southwest of Europe, Continental Portugal is bordered only with another country, Spain. To the north, the landscape is mountainous in the interior areas with uplands, interspersed with areas that enable the development of agriculture. In the south, up to Algarve, the terrain is mainly characterized by plains.

In addition to Continental Portugal, part of the national territory the Açores and Madeira.

Portugal has the shape of a rectangle, with 561 km long and 218 km wide.

It has a Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. Autumn and winter are typically windy, rainy and cool, being colder in the northern and central districts of the country.
Typically, the months of spring and summer are sunny and temperatures are high during the dry months of July and August.

The snow occurs regularly in the north during winter and reduces its occurrence in the south, until it became non-existent in most of Algarve.

Portugal became an independent country in 1143. It was a monarchy for 767 years, which ended in 1910, with the Founding of the Republic.
Portugal's population is approximately 11 million inhabitants and its official language is Portuguese.
